Chris Forsberg is a 44-year-old driver from San Clemente, California and one of the most established names in professional drifting. He became involved in drifting during the early days of the sport’s growth in the United States, turning a passion for building cars and driving at local events into a long-standing professional career in Formula Drift.

What started as simply being part of the grassroots drifting scene eventually evolved into full competition as the sport grew into an international championship. For Forsberg, the motivation has always been about pushing his driving further while helping the sport continue to develop.

He has great respect for drivers who helped build drifting into what it is today, including Vaughn Gittin Jr., not only for their driving but also for their role in growing the sport and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Among the biggest highlights of his career are winning three Formula Drift championships and building Forsberg Racing into a full platform that supports competition, events, and content within the drifting community.

Forsberg currently competes in the Destined Industries Nissan Z. The car is powered by a VR38DETT engine with a CP/Carillo bottom end, Supertech top end, Garrett G25-700 turbos, CJ Billet intake manifold, Motec M150 ECU, Deatschwerks injectors and a Dailey dry sump system. The setup produces around 1100 rear-wheel horsepower running 30psi of boost along with a 150 shot of nitrous.

One of Forsberg’s favourite aspects of the car is its balance. The chassis is predictable and responsive, allowing him to push the limits while representing the new Nissan Z platform at the highest level of competition.

What is your favourite track or circuit to drive and why?

Old Bridge Township Raceway Park stands out as one of his favourites. The layout used for drifting was designed specifically for the sport, creating long runs and close proximity to fans which builds an incredible atmosphere.

Any driving tips for beginners?

Focus on fundamentals and seat time. Don’t chase horsepower early on. Learning car control first and surrounding yourself with people who are better than you will help you improve faster.

What hobbies do you have outside of racing?

Outside of racing he enjoys sailing and playing guitar, both of which offer a different type of focus and progression compared to motorsport.

Dream street car?

A perfectly restored and modernized classic Nissan Fairlady Z (S30) with modern performance underneath. Clean, simple, and built to drive. Something like that would feel right at home at the SEMA Show.
